Big Bank Earnings: Quant Ranking vs. Quality Ranking

Which big banks deserve attention after earnings? TickerLab's published scores put Wells Fargo first in the Quant Ranking and Bank of America first in the Quality Ranking. (WFC; BAC) Use the ordering to prioritize research, not as an automatic instruction to buy.

Quant Ranking and Quality Ranking

Quant Ranking uses TickerLab's published Balanced composite. Quality Ranking uses the published Quality/Value composite, not a separate editorial business-quality score or credit rating; neither ranking introduces new weights.

1Wells Fargo (WFC)58.10Bank of America (BAC)58.04

5Goldman Sachs (GS)47.78Goldman Sachs (GS)45.90
6Morgan Stanley (MS)47.03Morgan Stanley (MS)45.36

All six carry a Neutral verdict under both presets. (JPM; BAC; WFC; C; GS; MS) First place means highest within this comparison, not an unconditional “Buy” or “Act Now.”

Prices, TickerLab targets and support

These are site quotes and technical targets, not analyst-consensus targets. Quotes are October 15 snapshots from approximately 12:19 PM ET; target plans use completed bars through October 14. (Quote example; target-plan example)

Upside is (target / price − 1) × 100; downside to support is (price − support) / price × 100, using unrounded inputs. Neither is expected return, a stop-loss instruction or reward/risk; neither determines the rankings.

Support uses confirmed prior bottoms from Mboum daily history, checking 20, then 50, then 100 sessions before explicitly labeled older references. Each bottom is lower than the three bars on either side and has not been undercut in subsequent captured bars or the quoted day's low. The 20-, 50- and 100-session moving averages are above these prices; no Fibonacci support was qualified. History ends October 14 and its adjustment basis is unspecified. This is an editorial support overlay, not the site's pivot-based support field.

Targets can sit beyond nearer resistance, as the site records for WFC, Citi and MS. (WFC; Citi; MS) Avoid treating the full target as an unobstructed path upward.

Earnings context and trade discipline

Bottom line

Start research with the model leaders, WFC on Balanced and BAC on Quality/Value. (Quant leader; Quality/Value leader) My preference is a watchlist first: compare the earnings evidence, then require a suitable entry, qualified support and a defined risk plan before acting.

Avoid chasing the biggest percentage gap to target or using this six-bank ordering as a blanket buy list. The rankings organize research; they do not replace it.
